“The Unity Of Truth In God” Episode #62 with Dr Ron R Rickards

Dr. Ron R. Rickards is a physicist and the founder of Eternal Harmony, which is a Christ-centered, science-based ministry. Eternal Harmony aims to foster a harmonious interrelationship between religion and science as well as reason and faith, through original Christ-centered music and literature. We talked with him about his book, which is called The Unity Of Truth In God.

  1. Pseudoscientific particle-only, law-only worldviews = 19th century-like scientistic reinterpretations of hard-won 21st century scientific realities that otherwise feature the wave-particle duality and space-law duality of quantum fields. Wave-only theories make the same error of trading scientific whole-truth for pseudoscientific half-truth, merely from the other side of the coin, as it were.

Regarding Feynman and Particles in Feynman diagrams:
“Feynman told me that when he realized that his theory of photons and electrons is mathematically equivalent to the usual theory, it crushed his deepest hopes. He had hoped that by formulating his theory directly in terms of paths of particles in space-time—Feynman graphs—he would avoid the field concept and construct something essentially new. For a while, he thought he had. Why did he want to get rid of fields? ‘I had a slogan,’ he said. Ratcheting up the volume in his Brooklyn accent, he intoned it: ‘The vacuum doesn’t weigh anything [dramatic pause] because there’s nothing there!’ Then he smiled, seemingly content, but subdued. His revolution didn’t quite come off as planned, but it was a damned good try.” Feynman “gave up when, as he worked out the mathematics of his version of quantum electrodynamics, he found the fields, introduced for convenience, taking on a life of their own. He told me he lost confidence in his program of emptying space when he found that both his mathematics and experimental facts required the kind of vacuum polarization modification of electromagnetic processes” that makes it “very difficult to avoid reference to space-filling fields.” –Frank Wilczek, The Lightness of Being, pp. 84, 89 (quoted in Ron Rickards, Eternal Harmony, Volume 1: The Unity of Truth in God, p. 106).

    Regarding the BGV Theorem:
“It is said that an argument is what convinces reasonable men and a proof is what it takes to convince even an unreasonable man. With the proof now in place, cosmologists can no longer hide behind the possibility of a past-eternal universe. There is no escape: they have to face the problem of a cosmic beginning.” –Alex Vilenkin (The “V” in the BGV Theorem!), Many Worlds In One, p. 176. Whether the universe emerged from a superspace via quantum gravity or from a multiverse (or from whatever mechanism), all the scientific evidence points to the fact that our universe had a beginning in spacetime about 13.8 billion years ago. And mechanism, outside of false scientistic dichotomies, does not exclude agency.
